Studies on Extraction of Total Tannin Content from seeds of Momordica charantia

Abstract


Bitter Gourd is also known as Bitter Melon or Bitter Apple and few other names also, We called it bitter due to its bitter taste as it contain vitamin C. Its scientific name is Momordica charantia. It is a tropical and subtropical fermented beverage which is grown primarily in India and Eastern regions of Asia. The fruit contains a number of important nutrients. It belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae and it is popularly known by the name Plant Insulin among the scientists because of its effectiveness in diabetes as it helps in lowering blood sugar, people also drink it's juice as medication. We are studied on extraction of total tannin content from seeds of Bitter Gourd by using extraction process. In extraction (optimization process), physico chemical parameters are played a role character for extraction of TTC. Here Different Solvents, percentage solvents, time, pH and particle mesh sizes are associated to the extraction process of TTC. Here, the optimum parameters are Ethanol, 80% solvent, 48 hrs, pH-6 and 72 mesh size. The TTC concentration was found to be 31.0 µg/ml in this extraction.
