Royal Jelly Protein – A Review

Hemalatha R

Abstract

Royal jelly (RJ) protein is a unique protein produced from honey bee. Royal jelly has a complex composition of proteins, amino acids, organic acids, sterols, phenols, sugars, minerals, and other unknown substances. One of the most important products for the colony is the royal jelly that is used to feed the worker larvae until the third day, drone larvae until pupation, and the queen throughout larval and adult stage. In the normal conditions, the amount of royal jelly produced by a colony depends on the number of larvae since royal jelly is not stored in the combs. This study congregates data about the properties of royal jelly protein.
