Abstract

The trial was conducted in 2018 and 2019 Ayka-selmi and Zofna-dawa Kebeles in Semen Ari woreda to evaluate and demonstrate fungicides against wheat yellow rust disease. Variety Danda’a, with application of two fungicides namely Rex®Duo and Tilt (propiconazole) were used. Totally 3 treatments were used including unsprayed check. Treatments were laid down in a single plot design. Tested fungicides revealed better level of efficacy against yellow rust disease compared to the unsprayed check. Percentage Severity Index (59.84%), (41.26%) and (100%) of yellow rust from Tilt 250 EC, Rex®Duo and control plot, respectively was recorded in 2018 while in 2019 it was 38.33%, 26.26%, and 70% from Tilt, Rex®Duo and control respectively. Rex® Duo controlled the disease by (63% and 92%) and Tilt by (39% and 68%) over the untreated control in the 2018 and 2019 years, respectively. In Rex®Duo treated plot the yield was increased by 69.67% and 39.14% and in the Tilt treated plot 67.43% and 31.03% over control plot by the year 2018 and 2019, respectively. According to the farmer’s preference, Rex® Duo was preferred as the first choice followed by Tilt. The cost-benefit analysis also showed that the application of Rex®Duo gave the highest net benefit followed by Tilt. Generally, both fungicides controlled the disease. Therefore, it is recommended to use Rex® Duo followed by Tilt 250 EC* to manage wheat yellow disease and improve wheat production.
