Abstract

Ethno-medicinal plants are a great source of herbal drugs. These plants have no side effect and are very effective. Therefore there is a tremendous increase in the interest of domestic manufacturers of herbal based medicines. Spectroscopic techniques can be employed for qualitative and quantitative analysis of plants leaf extract. Polygonum chinense Linn, also locally known as Modhu Huleng in Assam belongs to the family Polygonaceae. It is used as food and for traditional folk medicine to cure diarrhea etc. in Assam. In this paper we have observed UV-VIS, FTIR and Raman spectrum of leaf extract of the plant. It may be concluded from the results obtained in the present investigation that the leaf contains different bioactive compounds which might be useful in pharmaceutical applications.
