Cardiac Tissue Engineering and Bioartificial Heart

Rishika Sharma

Abstract

Cardio-vascular diseases such as acute myocardial infarction mainly ends with death of the person in most of the cases. Cardiomyoplasty due to its regenerative capacity has been considered as the epicentre of studies and is being used over twenty years. However, this advanced technique has emerged in the field using specific cells with regenerative property, growth, vascular-endothelial growth factors and differentiation factors, biomaterials, and scaffolds which will induce the regeneration of the whole organ or locally damaged tissue. The most recent technique being used is de novo generation of bioartificial hearts decellularization, recellularization and preservation of various structures with new, contractile vascular muscular tissue.
