Precision Mass Spectrometry: A Review

Mamta Yadav

Abstract

The dominant method of chemical analysis in the late twentieth decade is mass spectrometry (MS). It has helped in the discovery of a variety of things in biology, physics, and chemistry. MS is used daily in various scientific facilities across the globe to examine fundamental molecular processes. Industry also makes extensive use of MS, especially in protocols for food safety, quality control, and drug development. Mass spectrometers are sometimes completely necessary and undesirable when using other metrological equipment. Because MS allows for direct molecular characterization based on density ratios and disintegration patterns, it stands out from other scientific methods. MS has thus been employed in subjective phytochemical screening for a number of decades. A variety of institutions engaged on technical and technological enhancements that may make MS a completely computational metrological platform in order to answer the urgent need for quantitative molecular measurements. In this theme issue, the scientists who work for some of those laboratories share their expertise and passion surrounding quantitative MS. I'm hoping that readers will find this theme issue useful and that it will foster basic and commercial research utilizing quantitative MS measurements. New targets for therapeutic drugs have been obtained as a result of enormous breakthroughs in our understanding of the chemistry underpinning life processes. Parallel synthesis and screening efforts frequently result in the discovery of potent medicines to target these targets. The development of either brand-new analytical tools or the advancement of already-existing ones has nearly always been what has made target identification and parallel approaches to drug discovery successful. Among these instruments, mass spectrometry has developed into an indispensable method for the examination of substances connected to biology. Through an explanation of the fundamentals of mass spectrometry, this article will assist researchers in the drug discovery process.
