Bishwajit Nandi, Bodhisatwa Roy, Souradipto Choudhuri

Abstract

As long as there is humankind living on this planet, there will be diseases. Therefore, resisting diseases is a key factor for the survival of the human species. But on the other hand, the microbes responsible for diseases are also living beings. And they also evolve over time. Therefore new drugs or medications are one of the crucial aspects for the survival of the human species. Alongside, the administration of drugs in the human body is also a crucial point. Over decades the delivery systems have enhanced significantly with the advancements of science and technologies. This paper sheds light on these aspects. In the first part, the concept of drug delivery and recent advancements with respect to nanotechnology is discussed. In the latter part, the novel approaches for drug designs viz. Computer aided drug design (CADD) and nanotechnology involved for drug design are reviewed. In the last part, various challenges faced and the future prospects of these fields are explained.
