3D Bioprinting: Principle and Current Applications

Abstract


Bioprinting is a subset of additive manufacturing (AM), which is also known as three-dimensional (3D) printing. It is described as the use of living cells, biomaterials, and biological molecules in the printing of structures. The problem, design, material selection, and product manufacture are all phases in the bioprinting process. There are several printing processes, some of which include extrusion-based, inkjet-based, and laser-based. Bioprinting is employed in a variety of fields, including prostheses, personalised therapy, clinical implants, cartilage regeneration, skin regeneration, ISLET cell transplants, controlled medication delivery, and so on. Bioprinting is a relatively new field in the healthcare industry. The many uses of bioprinting, as well as the numerous types of bioprinters and biomaterials, are explained in this summary.
