Response Surface Optimization of the Medium Components for the Production of Exo-polysaccharide by Lactobacillus plantarum MTCC 2621

Yogendra Singh

Abstract

This study was aimed to produce and purify the Exo-polysaccharides from the lactobacillus
plantarum MTCC 2621 culture by using ethanol precipitation method by submerged
fermentation. The culture showed the higher EPS and biomass yield by using suitable
conditions. Lactobacillus plantarum MTCC 2621 showed EPS yield 3.3 g/l by glucose, 3.4g/l
by organic nitrogen source, 3.1g/l by inorganic nitrogen source, 2.2g/l by 48 hours
incubation time and 2.7g/l by using pH 7. The maximum EPS yield was optimized for the
media components using response surface methodology. Analytical evaluation by phenol-
sulphuric method revealed the presence of total sugar contents.
