Abstract

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by immoderate food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight, as well as a distorted body self-perception. It typically involves excessive weight loss and is usually found more in females than in males. Other essential features of this disorder include an intense fear of gaining weight, a distorted image of one’s body, denial of the seriousness of the illness, and—in females—amenorrhea, an absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles when they are otherwise expected to occur. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on the knowledge regarding anorexia nervosa among adolescent girls in the selected school of Jabalpur city, Madhya Pradesh. This study utilized a quasi-experimental research approach with a one group pre-test and post-test design. The conceptual framework adopted for the study was based on Modified conceptual framework based on Ludwig Von Bertalanffy system model. The data was collected from selected schools of Jabalpur city by using purposive sample technique. The sample was consisted 60 adolescent girls in selected school of Jabalpur city. The tools used for collecting the necessary data were a structured questionnaire. A planned teaching programme was developed for enhancing the knowledge of adolescent girls in the selected school of Jabalpur city. The data obtained were analyzed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics in term of frequency, percentage, mean, median, standard deviation and Chi-square. The mean post-test knowledge of adolescent girls was significantly higher than mean pre-test knowledge of adolescent girls. Pre-test knowledge score mean is 8.05 and SD is 3.14. Post-test knowledge score mean is 19.18 and SD is 4.02. This indicates that the planned teaching was effective. Pre-test and post-test was statistically tested by applying t-test at the level of significance 0.01%. The calculated value of paired t-test is t=16.37 which is higher than table value. After the finding of the study, it indicates that good results were obtained after administration of planned teaching programme. There was a significant increase in the knowledge of the sample after administration of planned teaching program.
