Avian Pathogenic E. Coli Alters the Transcriptome Profile of the Liver in Broiler Chicks

Megha Kaore, Nitin Kurkure

Abstract

Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) causes different pathological conditions in chickens of all age groups. In the present study, the transcriptome profile of APEC infected liver samples and control birds was studied. We sequenced 12 liver RNA libraries generated from six APEC infected and control liver samples, respectively. The RNA Seq of the control and infected liver samples generated 10.64 to 13.80 million pair-end reads. Genes were detected as differentially expressed (DE) between APEC infected and control birds. Gene ontology analysis revealed over-representation of PPAR signaling and oxidation-reduction pathways. Negative regulation of l-kappa B kinase and NF-kappa B cascade, glucose metabolic process, and cell wall catabolic process. Host transcriptomic response to APEC infection reveals the combinatorial activity of multiple genes and altered immune response to the invading organism.
