Common Methods for Isolation, Revival and Freezing of Peripheral Animal Blood Mononuclear Cells—A Review

Dolly Sharma

Abstract

ABSTRACT

The main players to investigate to effect of bio actives on various immune cells are human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). These cells are easily isolated from blood of healthy donors or buffy coats (leukocyte concentrates, a by-product from hospital Blood Banks in the manufacturing of red blood cell and thrombocyte concentrates from anti-coagulated whole blood). PBMCs vary from intestinal tissue cells in terms of structure, phenotype, and activation status. Methods for the isolation of PBMCs are discussed in this review. Moreover, the revival and freezing of common breast cancer line MCF-7 is also discussed.
