Osteoarthritis of Knee

Sanchita Pahari

Abstract

The destruction of joints is characterized by the deterioration of articular cartilages; these are cushion-like substances that are present between the joints and act as a shock absorber. They lessen the rubbing of the joint surfaces. The common problems of the patient are joint swelling, joint stiffness, and pain. Knee osteoarthritis can be detected via radiographs showing bony cysts, narrow joint space, and sclerosing of the bone.

Keywords: cartilage, lubrication, osteoarthritis
