Sero-prevalence of Hydatidosis Among Patients Visiting Neurological Department of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal

Nirmala G.C., Mahendra Maharjan

Abstract

Hydatidosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus remain as a considerable problem for
public health and livestock economy in developing countries. A hospital based Screening of
80 neurological patients visiting neurology department of TUTH was carried out. Of the total
studied samples 10 (12.5%) were found to have positive sero-prevalence towards E.
granulosus (hydatidosis) using commercial indirect ELISA kit. The high rate of sero-
prevalence was found among the dalit ethnic group (33.3%), female (18.6%) and the age
group of 41–50 years (28.6%). There was no significant association between sero-prevalence
and ethnicity, gender as well as age of the patients
