Fusarium sp. in Capsicum pubescens (Rocoto): Redefining Host-Pathogen Interaction

López-Aranda BG, Vásquez EF

Abstract

Rocoto (Capsicum pubescens) is one of the most consumed pepper produce regionally and around the world. In Peruvian cuisine heritage Rocoto is highly appreciated for its flavor and pungency, its domestication and distribution in the Americas dates back to pre-Hispanic societies. Here, a new Fusarium specie is reported as having a putative positive effect on the germination of Capsicum pubescens seeds, similar Fusarium sp. in Capsicum pubescens (Rocoto): Redefining Host-Pathogen Interaction mycelium has been observed in nuts of a local specie, Juglans regia (Nogal). Initial microscopic observations have been carried out and Mycelium culture, PCR-amplicon Sequencing, Genome Sequencing along with experimental approaches have been set as the rationale steps to properly elucidate Fusarium sp. identification and role during seed germination at the Biophysical Level. Additionally, the term Co-evolvant is introduced to refer species interaction through gen pools which sometimes is detrimental for the crop species, the construct of Pathogen in this regard does not describe the actual nature of such interactions.
